Courtney Pine is the creative catalyst behind this inspirational all-female line up. In the original spirit of the Jazz Warriors this project is a multicultural band of dedicated improvisers performing a mix of music of African origin with wide ranging roots (British, US, Latin American and Caribbean) all executed as varying styles of jazz.
Expect a uniquely provocative mix of jazz standards and original music.
This charity concert is in aid of the Mary Seacole Memorial Statue Appeal which aims to erect a statue of this pioneer nurse outside Saint Thomas hospital.
"I trust that England will not forget one who nursed her sick, who sought out her wounded to aid and succour them, and who performed the last offices for some of her illustrious dead". Sir William H. Russell, The Times newspaper Crimean war correspondent, writing about Mary Seacole in 1857
