The Sadie Crawford Music Scholarship
In June, Streatham & Clapham High School GDST were privileged to participate in the unveiling of a blue plaque in Tooting, London at the childhood home of Sadie Crawford (1885-1965). Ms Crawford was intrepid in travelling the world (including pre-revolutionary Russia, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the USA) in the 1910s and 1920s, performing vaudeville and jazz at a time when such travel was difficult at the best of times, let alone for women.
After years of their contributions being forgotten by the history books, talented and pioneering women such as Sadie are rightfully and increasingly receiving the recognition they have never enjoyed. In continued celebration of her career, SCHS has just instigated the annual ‘Sadie Crawford Music Scholarship’, and the school is delighted to announce that the first recipient of this honour is Year 7 pupil Adrianna Forbes-Dorant.
