Soothsayers with Dele Sosimi
Freshly signed to the Wah Wah 45s’ label in 2017, the mighty Soothsayers return to Hideaway with their unique dub heavy Afro fusion sound as they launch their latest single ‘Dis and Dat’ from their forthcoming album, with special guest Dele Sosimi.
“One of the finest slices of an Anglo Caribbean fusion since The Specials in their prime… artfully mixing in funk and Afrobeat to their deep dub.” Uncut Magazine
“Thrilling harmonies… seriously infectious dance-floor grooves… goose bump inducing vocals” The Guardian
“Afro-dub at its most infectious, an energetic burst of musical virtuosity that is both conscious and peppily propulsive.” The Metro
Soothsayers stamped their initial mark with their acclaimed debut album, ‘Lost City’, which was grounded largely in a jazz framework, shaded by hues of reggae and African rhythms. That set was followed by ‘Tangled Roots’, an exceptional second album that defies standard classifications: the West African root that drove Fela Kuti’s rebellion is filtered through the deeply seductive dub experimentation of Lee Perry, King Tubby and Augustus Pablo, to create a sound firmly lodged in London’s broader musical arena.
Their live show is fiery with soulful vocal chants, conquering horns, fat heavy grooves and a line–up of astonishingly talented musicians, producing a memorable, afro-inspired, dub-fuelled, dance-inducing experience.
Dele Sosimi is one of the most important voices of Afrobeat. "The most fluent Afrobeat you're going to hear today" Max Reinhardt, Straight No Chaser.
Hackney born, Dele was raised in Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s shadow at the height of early 70s afrobeat. He became Musical Director for both Fela’s Egypt 80 and later Femi Kuti’s Positive Force.
Dele's music and shows are charged with his passion, labour and unrelenting spirit. Dele now begins work on his 3rd studio album.
