Imperial College Big Band
IC Big Band is the official big band of Imperial College London, featuring a mix of musical scientists, medics and engineers who regularly perform top quality jazz in and around the capital!
Frequently guest directed by some of the UK’s leading jazz musicians, the band has a set list that includes contemporary fusion, fully-fledged Latin numbers and classic big band swing. In recent years, IC Big Band are proud to have won a platinum award at the National Concert Band Festival, as well as having toured to Barcelona, Krakow and Bucharest.
CUJO - The Cambridge University Jazz Orchestra
CUJO brings together the top jazz musicians in the university. They have performed in numerous professional venues in the UK and overseas on national and international tours, won gold awards in UK-wide big band competitions and have collaborated with world-famous musicians, composers and arrangers such as Steve Waterman, Mark Nightingale, Issie Barratt and Mike Gibbs. The band regularly tours abroad - in the 09-10 academic year they toured to Rome in April, and in July appeared at the prestigious Montreux jazz festival.
The group is 20-strong and plays a wide variety of music, including arrangements performed by the leading big bands of today such as Bill Holman, Bob Curnow, NYJO, Bob Florence, and the Lincoln Center and Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestras. We do stay committed to our roots however - our pads feature the full repertory of standards, swing, and funk as well as a number of classic vocal charts.
