Prepare to be challenged and positively moved as you experience the infectious creativity of Sherika Sherard. With a voice like velvet to deliver her robust persona this Artist never fails to warm the hearts of listeners. Born and raised in South London, it was after listening to Marvin Gaye that Sherika came to realise she also wanted to discover her deepest emotions through performance and songwriting. When finding her sound, Sherika says “Paolo Nutini told me to pick up the guitar and Nina Simone told me to reflect the current times”.
Inspired by folk, roots, blues and soul music, Cellar Door are an acoustic roots duo comprised of Aimee Grinter and Mike Brown. The duo has been playing together for the last 7 years, recently they were voted as Croydon’s hottest unsigned act, and it’s not hard to see why. Drawing inspiration from artists as diverse as PJ Harvey, Nina Simone and Joni Mitchell, the 11 tracks on this, their debut album, showcase some deft guitar playing from Mike, and Aimee’s extraordinary vocal clarity and range, which moves effortlessly from smoky jazz croon to chiming flights of dreamy high notes.
Poppy Holmes grew up in South London listening to Ella Fitzgerald, Laura Marling and Noel Coward. She started writing songs at 11 years old and hasn’t stopped since. Come and watch this up-and-coming singer-songwriter writer perform her witty, poetic lyrics with smooth tones.
