Down for the Count are a mini big band who bring the sounds of the Swing Era back to life, with an electrifying show full of incredible energy and musicianship.

In February 2020, the band are returning to Hideaway to perform the music of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong – two pioneers of jazz and swing music, who were loved the world over. The Down for the Count Swing Orchestra bring the timeless music of this incredible duo back to life, with honest and respectful re-creations of some of their most popular hits.

Expect to hear some of Ella & Louis’ famous duets including They Can’t Take That Away From Me and Dream a Little Dream of Me, alongside their solo hits – songs such as Cheek to Cheek, Georgia on My Mind, Jeepers Creepers and Hello Dolly. The band will also look at some of Ella & Louis’ collaborations with greats such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Oscar Peterson.

Down for the Count are a mini big band with an electrifying show full of incredible energy and musicianship. They are regularly found at jazz clubs in the UK and abroad (Ronnie Scotts London, Hideaway Streatham, Le Caveau de la Huchette Paris), at festivals including Twinwood Festival and London Jazz Festival, and on BBC Radio.

The band recreate classic tunes from the Swing Era, but this is no mere nostalgia trip – they perform each song in their own unmistakeable style, breathing new life into the best vintage music.

Combine that with the band’s top class instrumental solos, sublime vocal performances, and irresistible humour and joie de vivre, and you get a show that never fails to get toes tapping and audiences dancing... so no need to feel guilty about following your Hideaway Sunday lunch with that cheeky dessert after all!
