Down for the Count bring the sounds of the Swing Era back to life, with a stunning and energetic show celebrating the best music of the 20th Century.
On Sunday 13th September the band will be celebrating the life of Nat ‘King’ Cole – one of the most important jazz vocalists of all time. Down for the Count will be playing some of his best known hits, including L-O-V-E, Let There Be Love and Sweet Lorraine amongst many other lesser-known gems.
The band will also celebrate Nat as a pianist – his piano playing was one of the enduring voices of The Swing Era, and the band will bring that voice back to life with transcriptions of some of Nat’s best piano work.
Down for the Count are regularly found at jazz clubs in the UK and abroad (Ronnie Scott’s London, Hideaway Streatham, Le Caveau de la Huchette Paris), at festivals including Twinwood Festival and London Jazz Festival, and on BBC Radio.
The band recreate classic tunes from the Swing Era, but this is no mere nostalgia trip – they perform each song in their own unmistakeable style, breathing new life into the best vintage music.
Combine that with the band’s top class instrumental solos, sublime vocal performances, and irresistible humour and joie de vivre, and you get a show that never fails to get toes tapping and audiences dancing... so no need to feel guilty about following your Hideaway Sunday lunch with that cheeky dessert after all!
