David McAlmont presents Billie Holiday at Carnegie Hall - Standing Room Tickets
We have now released a limited amount of Standing Room Only Tickets. Holders of these tickets will only be allowed entry into the club strictly after 8.45pm.
Inspired by the legendary 1956 concert at which Billie’s music was accompanied by extracts from her autobiography ‘Lady Sings The Blues’, David McAlmont gives his unique interpretations of the Lady Day catalogue at Hideaway Jazz Club, while quoting from her extraordinary life story, with a band led by pianist / MD Alex Webb (Cafe Society, Fever, Portrait of Cannonball).
‘David McAlmont is one of British pop's most precious hidden treasures. His voice is a sublime and miraculous thing’ – The Independent.
The show includes many of the most well-known Holiday songs, ranging from the optimism of her 1930s work (What A Little Moonlight Can Do, Fine And Mellow) through her 1940s Torch songs (My Man, I Cover The Waterfront) to her self-penned classics Don’t Explain and Lady Sings The Blues – and many more.
David McAlmont (vocals)
Possibly one of the greatest singers this country has ever produced, having collaborated with everyone from Bond composer David Arnold to Michael Nyman, Paul Weller and most famously with Bernard Butler producing the classic hit single Yes. McAlmont's music is pure emotion, drawing unique, soulful portraits from his own life and philosophies, all beautifully framed by the finest soul.
Line up: Alex Webb (piano, arranger, MD) leads a stellar band of Sue Richardson (trumpet), Denys Baptiste (tenor sax), Inga Eichler (bass) and Sophie Alloway (drums).
A Hideaway Joint Promotion in Association with David McAlmont.
