A jazz-groove project born out of love and straight from the heart of Incognito founder and bandleader Bluey Maunick, featuring British jazz guitar great Jim Mullen plus vocals from Imaani!

With main man Bluey at the helm and the Incognito rhythm section setting the tempo, Citrus Sun maintain the groove whilst layering in solo trumpet vibes reminiscent of the late Donald Byrd around the distinctive guitar style bought to the party by the great Jim Mullen – the man and the muse that inspired Bluey to form this great band.

Whilst keeping the groove at the core, Citrus Sun’s music is more contemporary jazz-based than the acid jazz leanings of Bluey’s other productions with Incognito, showing the Influence of Donald Byrd and The Mizell Brothers.

“In terms of sound it is also more sparse as it features the sole trumpet reminiscent of the late Donald Byrd, and there is a cool Latin jazz flavour on our current album”, says Bluey. “The distinctive sound of Jim Mullen’s thumbing guitar brings a tonal quality that is very different to Incognito, but at times it is obvious that this is the Incognito rhythm section and for that we make no excuses!”

Imaani credits the legendary Jocelyn Brown for introducing her to the music business and nurturing the seeds of her talent. Since then she has never looked back! She has performed worldwide on television, in the studio, and live with such luminaries as Nile Rodgers, Chaka Khan, Maceo Parker, Jimmy Cliff, UB40, Gloria Gaynor, Incognito, Betty Wright, Mica Paris, Stephen Marley, Julian Marley, Carleen Anderson and Leon Ware.

Described by Bluey from Incognito as having “one of the most wonderful and memorable voices which has graced so may Incognito albums”, Imaani launched her first solo album – Standing Tall – in late Autumn 2014 to critical acclaim.
