Lea DeLaria: House of David

DeLaria + Bowie = Jazz!

From the singer who gave us the critically acclaimed Jazz reinventions of 'The Ballad Of Sweeney Todd' and Blondie's 'Call Me' comes a brand new look at one of pop music's most enduring singer songwriters, David Bowie.

Lea DeLaria has distinguished herself in every form of entertainment that she touches. Jazz Musician, Broadway Diva, Actor, Writer and Stand-Up Comic, and it is plain to see why Ben Brantley of the New York Times describes Lea as "Every inch a star."

In 2000, having already enjoyed a career as a Broadway singer and stand-up comedian, Lea made her recording debut with Warner Bros. Hailed by The Times as “the Best Jazz Album of 2001", Play It Cool confirmed Lea as one of the best jazz singers of our time. Q magazine commented "Lea DeLaria is blessed with one of the most beautiful voices around", while Time Out claimed "the gal can certainly swing", and the Guardian summed her up as "talks like a coffee grinder, and sounds like a cross between Ella Fitzgerald and a Broadway diva." Her second album, Double Standards, also received rave reviews in the UK and US press, with tracks such as ‘Call Me’ and ‘Philadelphia’ attracting plenty of airtime on both sides of the Atlantic.

Lea’s live Jazz dates in the UK have included the London Jazz Festival (2001 and 2007), Brighton’s Komedia, as well as several sold-out residencies at Pizza Express, and Pizza On The Park. She has also appeared at the New York City JVC and Montreux Jazz Festival, and as the featured vocalist of the 50th Anniversary of the Newport Jazz Festival Tour.

The first openly gay comic to appear on network television in the USA, Lea now has four records out on the Warner Jazz label, and three starring roles in Broadway musicals under her belt, as well as a host of specials across the American television network. Lea has an Emmy, an OBIE, a Drama Desk, an Ovation and Theater World Award. She has twice been honoured by The Dream League of NYC. She has performed concerts at the Festival Hall and Royal Albert Hall, The Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, and The Hollywood Bowl.

This gig will make you want to laugh, cry and sing along - don't miss it!
