In 1956 Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong released their first duets album, “Ella & Louis”, on the Verve record label. They would go on to record a total of three albums together, and to this day they remain some of the most celebrated jazz recordings ever made.

To mark the 60th anniversary of the first album’s release, The Down for the Count Swing Orchestra will be performing a special show celebrating these two musical legends. The band will be re-creating some songs from the albums, performing other Ella and Louis classics, and will also throw in some Christmas tunes for good measure – making this a family show you won’t want to miss!

The Down for the Count Swing Orchestra are an 11-piece mini big band who bring the sounds of the Swing Era back to life, performing tailor-made arrangements of big band classics that remain faithful to the original sound. You can also expect to hear some jive numbers and New Orleans grooves, meaning there is something for everyone in each show.

The band have performed up and down the country with credits including Twinwood Festival, The London Jazz Festival and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. Their joyful performance and infectious rhythm never fails to get toes tapping and audiences dancing... so no need to feel guilty about following your Hideaway Sunday lunch with that cheeky dessert after all!
