Nina Ferro

Nina Ferro who'll be joining us for our celebration of the music of Aretha FranklinBorn in Melbourne, Australia to Italian parents, Nina's musical upbringing started with the family record player. Out of the speakers came a mix of classical music, especially opera (her paternal grandmother was a mezzo-soprano), Soul, Motown, Rock & Roll, Rhythm & Blues, Jazz and Pop could be heard. Her favourite singers as a young girl were Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Elvis Presley. Since relocating to the UK in 2005 Nina is fast establishing her mark as one of the hottest young Soul-Jazz vocalists on the UK scene. She is a multi award-winning vocalist, songwriter, session and recording artist whose powerful yet sensuous voice and stunning vocal range have done much to establish her enviable international reputation.

Brendan Reilly

Brendan is a trained singer in jazz, a writer, producer and multi-instrumentalist . Brendan was born and raised in the USA within a family of musicians. At the age of 20 he moved to Europe, where he went on to release solo material, has played countless sessions and live shows as well as working as a backing vocalist for the likes of The Basement Jaxx and many others.

Even if you’ve never been to this exceptional pianist’s gigs, you’ll have heard her special touch time and again - on many albums from Ian Shaw to Robert Wyatt, live in concert with Oasis and Jimmy Somerville as well as her numerous contributions for television and soundtracks for the movies.

Janette Mason is a talented composer and arranger. She was recently commissioned to write the score for feature film, The Calling, starring Susannah York and Brenda Blethyn, contributed four arrangements to Ian Shaw’s album, Drawn to all Things, and produced and arranged Lea DeLaria’s current Warner Brothers release, The Live Smoke Sessions, which made the Grammy ballot.

As a Jazz musician, she has been a seminal figure on the British Jazz scene for the last fifteen years, sharing the stage with Mornington Lockett, Julian Siegel and many more.

Rob Hughes is an experienced London-based musician and composer with an extensive list of live performances to his credit including Billy Ocean, Gloria Gaynor, Heather Small (M-People), All Saints, ABC, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Anastacia, LuLu, Howard Jones, Kid Creole ,Katrina And The Waves, Christians, Beverly Craven, Candi Staton plus many more. In 2006 Rob released his debut album Butterfly and a second album The London Experiment in 2010.

Shanti studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and was featured soloist with Kenny Wheeler on the CD ‘Walk Softly’. In the 80s paul toured with Tim Garland’s ‘Points on the Curve’ band, played with the Guildhall big band at Ronnie Scott’s with Randy Brecker, played with Jason Rebello, Cleveland Watkiss and Courtney Pine. This last year he has toured with Andy Abrahams and with Friendly Fires for their China tour.

Billy Adamson - Guitar

Billy Adamson guitar player who'll be playing with us at Hideaway.Billy studied music for a year at Newcastle University before being offered a scholarship to start in the second year of jazz studies at Middlesex University in London, where he graduated with a BA in Music Performance in 2007. He has played at Ronnie Scotts, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Royal Opera House and venues further afield such as the Montreaux Jazz Festival and headlining the International Festival of Arts in Zimbabwe. He has recorded at Abbey Road Studios and BBC Maida Vale Studios, which went on to win BBC Maida Vale Session of the year 2009 at the World Wide Awards. He has played on numerous national radio and TV shows in France with Universal recording artist Sara Schiralli. He has recorded in France, Germany and on numerous albums in the UK.

Simon Little - Bass

Simon Little looking very classy, he'll be joining us at Hideaway for our celebration of the music of Aretha Franklin.Born in London, Simon started learning the double bass at school in Dorset with Barry Glynn. He went on to study at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London (1999-2003) receiving tuition from Kevin Rundell, Jeff Clyne and Steve Watts. He first picked up an electric bass aged 15 and has never looked back. Equally at home on upright or electric basses both live and in the studio, Simon soon became one of the busiest session bassists in the UK.

Perhaps best known as the bassist with The Divine Comedy and Duke Special, he also tours regularly with Clare Teal and Maggie Reilly. 

 

Simon Lea - Drums

Simon Lea deep in his drummer seat.Since studying drum kit at the Guildhall school of music, he has been lucky enough to perform and record with a vast range of different artists, including Dionne Warwick,  Boy George, Joe McElderry and Seth Lakeman.
