The New Jazz Couriers

Martin Drew - Drums

Mornington Lockett - Sax

Jim Hart - Vibes

Robin Aspland - Piano

Paul Morgan - Bass

Another all star band, The New Jazz Couriers was put together by Mornington Lockett and ex-Oscar Peterson drummer Martin Drew as a tribute to the fantastic band co-led by Ronnie Scott and Tubby Hayes in the late 1950s. The current line-up features the prodigious talent of ex-NYJO drummer Jim Hart on vibraphone and the great Paul Morgan on bass, and is completed by the fine pianist Robin Aspland, who has returned to the jazz 'fold', after a long stint as keyboardist and MD with Van Morrison. The New Couriers are still featuring the music of important British musicians, more recently focussing on the great pianist, vibraphonist and composer, Victor Feldman. Victor was a contemporary of Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott, who settled in New York, playing and writing extensively for Cannonball Adderley and Miles Davis.

Mornington Lockett - Sax (Ronnie Scott, Jim Mullen, Stan Tracey, Jimmy
Smith, Don Grusin, Claire Martin, Sarah Jane Morris, Ian Shaw, Oasis)
"Saxophonist Mornington Lockett must be one of the most complete masters of the instrument alive today... " The Observer

Martin Drew - drums (Freddy Hubbard, Dexter Gordon, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Brecker, Paul McCartney etc....)
"His forceful beat, lightness on the cymbals and subtle turnarounds propelled the band with a vigour that would have done the original Couriers proud." The Times

Jim Hart - Vibes (Phil Woods, Julian Arguelles, Airto Moreira, Sir John Dankworth, Dame Cleo Laine, Stan Sulzmann, Loop collective)
"Outstanding....a stunning performance from the rhythmically poised Hart." Financial Times
