GEOFF GASCOYNE AND TRUDY KERR QUINTET

7:00 pm 02/07/2010

Tickets £10, Doors 7pm, Performance 9pm

Geoff Gascoyne and Trudy Kerr Quintet

Geoff is a wonderful bass player who originally made his name as one of the most fluent electric players on the scene, but in an unusual reversal of form, has in recent years switched very successfully to acoustic double bass. He has worked with many of the major names on the scene from Jim Mullen to Georgie Fame, and is generally regarded as one of the finest players of his generation.

Featured tonight is the marvellous singer Trudy Kerr. Hailed as one of the country’s most polished singers‚ by The Times, Trudy moved to London in 1990 from her native Australia and, whilst continuing to gig regularly, as she had done back home, worked during the day as secretary for popular clarinettist Acker Bilk. She took time out to study jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and in 1995 got her musical career break when Ronnie Scott offered her a week at his club: she has performed regularly at the famous Soho jazzerie ever since. Trudy is currently working on her 9th album for release later in 2010 which is a collaboration with Australian singer Ingrid James. Trudy has recorded and performed with some great names in jazz including Mulgrew Miller, Jan Lundgren, Michael Garrick, Anita Wardell, Georgie Fame, Bob Dorough and Jamie Cullum. Her working UK band includes Tom Cawley, Geoff Gascoyne, and Seb de Krom as well as Derek Nash, Dick Pearce and Dave O’Higgins. A versatile singer, her set varies from gentle bossas, through Jazz standards to Stevie Wonder.

This is a sophisticated gig from some of the most talented musicians around.
