DAVE LEWIS'S "1 UP" feat. NOEL McCALLA

7:00 pm 18/06/2010

Tickets £10, Doors 7pm, Performance 9.30pm*

DAVE LEWIS’S “1 UP” featuring NOEL McCALLA

Led by tenor saxophonist Dave Lewis, 1UP is a real band - the coming together of distinctly individual yet like-minded musicians, all passionately committed to the groove. It’s real music, as back in the day.

His band this evening features an impressive array of talent fronted by the iconic R&B/Soul singer Noel McCalla. Noel first came to prominence with the seminal funk band Morrisey/Mullen and has for the last 15 or so years been the voice of Manfred Mann’s “Earth Band”.

A great band that is not to be missed.

Lineup:

Dave Lewis – sax

Noel McCalla – vocals

Neville Malcolm – bass

Rod Youngs – drums

Adam Phillips – guitar

Pete Eckford - percussion

Tim Lapthorn - piano

“McCalla…..a confident, individual voice, graceful and dynamic.” Independent on Sunday

“…..It’s a real treat……..tight chunky grooves and very exciting and funky sax……this is an absolute breath of fresh air……..Dave Lewis…..equally excelling in both Jazz and Funk…sets a standard of powerful, fiery solos that will be hard to surpass this year. More please!” Snowboy, Blues and Soul

*At Hideaway, you don’t have to sacrifice your love of football to indulge your love of jazz!!

Tonight’s gig has a slightly later start to accommodate those customers wishing to watch England v Algeria in the 2010 World Cup. We have a function room adjoining the main venue which will show the entire match on our big screen (kick off 7.30pm) which will finish roughly ten minutes before the music begins in the main venue. This screen is only available to customers who are staying for the evening’s music and as such the usual admission fees will apply.

Testimonials

It was great to return to Hideaway on Friday. I thought Tony O’Malley performed really well and seeing him, Neil Hubbard, Frank Collins and Dyan Birch together on stage evoked memories of watching Kokomo in the 70s! As always the food, the sound and the service were all fantastic. We are back in a fortnight and looking forward to it! We are off to the Jazz Cafe tonight, a nice venue but I prefer Hideaway!
