SPEAKEASY SUNDAY: The Coalminers

The Coalminers posing on tour at a festivalThe only band to fully dedicate themselves to the New Orleans Soul and Funk sound in the UK, The Coalminers have built up a reputation of delivering their very own authentic Swamp Soul!

They have performed on tour with the legendary drummer from 'The Meters' Zigaboo Modeliste, and also boast the same horn section used by Dr. John when he visits the UK. Tailor-made for the Speakeasy Sunday!

Taking in the likes of Professor Longhair, Lee Dorsey, Allen Toussaint, The Meters, Eddie Bo and the like, as well as penning their own songs, the 'miners are keeping things Crescent City style!

The band also works with international blues and funk artists who require a band when playing in Europe, and recently toured with the dynamic Californian blues singer and songwriter, Earl Thomas, and The Coalminers performing an intimate gigmaster funk drummer of New Orleans himself, Zigaboo Modeliste.

The Coalminers are made up of some of the finest musicians in London who, as well as leading their own successful projects, have worked with Dr John, Jamie Cullum, John Mayer, Massive Attack, Tom Jones, Maceo Parker, Bernard Purdie, Seal, The James Taylor Quartet, The Filthy Six, Madness, Amy Winehouse and Dizzee Rascal to name but a few.
