Chico Chagas - accordion Chico comes from Rio Branco, Acre, in the Brazilian Amazon - the same state as Chico Mendes. He began his musical journey at 7, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, father and uncles, who all played accordion. Aged 19, he moved to Rio de Janeiro to study classical jazz piano, harmony, arranging, improvisation and Brazilian popular music.
In Brazil, Chico enjoyed a prolific career as the most in demand sideman for saxophonist and clarinettist Paulo Moura, was musical director for Elza Soares (named Best Samba Singer of the Millennium by the BBC), as well as being in constant demand to compose for cinema, TV and theatre…
In 2008, Chico moved to London to find an audience for his original music. He believes the UK capital to be the most exciting, open minded, cosmopolitan “cooking pot” to create his own rich musical stew…

Tonight’s gig has a slightly later start to accommodate those customers wishing to watch England v USA in the 2010 World Cup. We have a function room adjoining the main venue which will show the entire match on our big screen (kick off 7.30pm) which will finish roughly ten minutes before the music begins in the main venue. This screen is only available to customers who are staying for the evening’s music and as such the usual admission fees will apply.

Really great venue, great show (Wayne Hernandez), love the bar, good food, great staff and what lovely clientele! Met people and chatted at random, as well as being with a group of friends, and it made a truly enjoyable evening.
Hideaway is a real treasure of South London, we live in Norbury and can’t wait to come back.
