Kai Hoffman's exciting new Quartet plays at London's best live jazz club Hideaway
A new project on the jazz scene, this versatile quartet is led by American singer, Miss Kai Hoffman, the renowned 'Queen of Swing.' Having worked mainly with larger bands - Ray Gelato's Giants and Kai's Cats, both resident at Ronnie Scotts - Kai Hoffman’s intimate new quartet lineup will still blow the roof off any venue, with their mesmerizing & eclectic arrangements from bassist Geoff Gascoyne & Kai herself. Their set includes everything from original takes on tunes like the gorgeous 'Pure Imagination' from Charlie & the Chocolate Factory to 'History Repeating' by the Propellerheads, with plenty of swingin', jivin' and groovy 60s tunes in between. Kai's contagious laughter & spirit manage to infuse her audiences with the spirit of swing, a long lasting gift lingering for days. Come check it out!
With an array of very talented musicians, this quartet is extremely flexible and has its surprises - ranging from swing to funk, Latin jazz to rock’n roll, and a touch of New Orleans- they will amaze and entertain like few can in the UK’s jazz scene.

Geoff Gascoyne
An exceptional and highly productive bassist, Gascoyne was born in Nottingham, in the 60’s. As a young boy he felt an acute attraction to music, delving into its world in the classical and popular nuances. His love for the latter and the local need for musicians would soon encourage him to take up the electric bass. In 1981, after moving to London to study painting, he joined his first professional group, and became a freelance musician.
Moved by an innate curiosity and definitely committing himself to music, he began his studies in jazz music in 1988. Two years later he would join the “Everything but the Girl” group, which took him on his first world-wide tours. He would soon found his first band, ‘Wabash’, taking on the acoustic bass, and began the life-long labour of composing and arranging tunes. It would be in Germany, during one of his many tours of Europe, that he would come to meet Georgie Fame (an association that continues to this day), joining his group later on in 1995 and through him got to perform with the great Van Morrison on a short tour of the UK. This year would prove to be a milestone in Geoff’s career as he also recorded his first album as a band leader, the appraised ‘Voices of Spring’, featuring 10 of London’s brightest musicians and singers and exposing Geoff’s true qualities on the electric and acoustic bass.
One of the best musicians around, Gascoyne shines through his bass on any show.
Gunter Kurmayr
Austrian piano player Gunter Kurmayr is one of the most prolific young jazz musicians on the UK scene. After studying at the Paris and Vienna Conservertoires, he moved operations to London, becoming sought after as an accompanist and solo pianist in some of the choicest London Hotels and Jazz venues. Gunter now regularly accompanies new jazz movers such as Trudy Kerr and has recently completed a tour of the USA and California and a season at “Pizza On the Park” with the singer Hollis Penfield.
Sebastiaan de Krom
Born in the Ne- therlands in 1971, Sebastiaan de Krom began his career in Holland by the end of the eighties, doing a few gigs and joining in jam sessions in local clubs, sharing the stage with professional musicians who shared with him their experiences. So in 1992, after attending a course that Berkley college was giving at an Italian Festival, he gained a scholarship (he was studying law at the time), upped sticks and went to Boston for five years. He now works with Ray Gelato Giants, has toured for years with Jamie Cullum, and played with world-class artists like Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Kurt Elling, and attended Berklee College of Music- and is one of the UK's busiest drummers.
